News from ASSITEJ Serbia National Centre
November 2011

This fall, ASSITEJ Serbia continues with the initiatives and programmes that bring together artists and creators in the theaters for children and young people from the surrounding countries sharing common or similar cultural past and language. The aim is to create a positive climate of cooperation and provide full support for the creation of new joint projects.

By organizing a two-day workshop for young managers in culture and theatre producers within FIST-the festival of art academies from the region, ASSITEJ Serbia will, for the second time, bring together a group of young participants of the Conference for young managers in culture that was held in April 2011 within the Children’s Theatre Festival “Zvezdariste”. This second meeting should enable the development of project drafts regarding the field of the theatre for the young, which were made at the first workshop and with the aim of realizing the projects based on the ideas of the young participants, and with the support of ASSITEJ Serbia and other national centers, within the period 2012-2013. FIST is a festival organized by students of Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade.

At the end of November within the Serbian Theatre Institution “Sterijino pozorje”, taking place in Novi Sad, a two-day forum of playwrights entitled “Big dramas for little people” will be organized. The motive behind this regional gathering is a competition for the original dramatic text for children and young in Serbian launched by ASSITEJ Serbia in partnership with the Serbian Theatre Institution “Sterijino pozorje” and Little Theatre Dusko Radovic, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of Serbia. There is a great interest, especially among young playwrights, for this competition and the first prize, which beside a monetary amount and the translation into English, includes professional production of the piece. What certainly contributed to this is the fact that, in the past years, ASSITEJ Serbia organized and realized a series of programmes dedicated to young playwrights, dramatists and playwriting for children.

ASSITEJ Serbia plans to announce the results of the competition and awarded contestants for the original dramatic text on 20th March-World Theatre Day for the Children and Young.
